Holidays in September: We are already past the middle of the current month, but there are still a few holidays left in September. At the start of the holiday season, there were up to 13 public holidays in September, eight of which have already been used. We have five more holidays left this month for the remaining 13 days, after which the festive season will begin to kick into full swing.
It should be noted that public holidays differ from state to state and from bank to bank.
Of the 13 public holidays in September, six are weekend holidays, three of which are already consumed in the first two weeks of the month. There are eight regional holidays during which lenders in certain specific regions remain closed due to occasions in those particular regions. While adding the two together we will see that there are 14 public holidays, it should be noted that one of them was September 10 – the second Saturday of the month. Therefore, this holiday is explosive, making it 13 holidays in September. Banks were closed in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on September 10 due to Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi.
Public holidays are given according to a list of public holidays established by the Reserve Bank. The RBI annually prepares a list of public holidays, according to which they come into effect. The banking regulator has notified public holidays to lenders under three tranches – the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays, real-time gross settlement holidays and bank account closures. All banks including public sector, private sector, foreign banks, cooperative banks and regional banks across the country will remain closed during these notified holidays.
