Waco PD sees increase in bank robberies and trailer thefts | KWKT

WACO, Texas (FOX 44) – Detectives from the Waco Police Department’s Burglary and Auto Theft Unit are raising awareness of the increase in two specific crimes.

The department sent out a statement Friday morning detailing how you can prevent yourself from becoming a victim of bank robbery and trailer theft.

The ministry says bank juggling is a scheme in which offenders park outside banks and watch customers come and go. After following the bank customer to another location, he will break into the vehicle and take the cash or other valuables.

In the past week, there have been four confirmed incidents of bank juggling at local Chase and Bank of America locations. The department urges citizens to be aware of their surroundings so as not to become a victim. If anything goes wrong, or if you see someone sitting in their vehicle outside a bank for long periods of time, you should call your local police department and report it.

The department also says trailer thefts have increased over the past two months and that trailers are very easy to steal if not stored and secured properly.

The department asks residents to store trailers behind a fence locked with a trailer lock. Burn a VIN in multiple places on the trailer and document where and what that VIN is. Even if your trailer is attached to your vehicle, it could still be stolen, and the department advises taking all necessary precautions to keep trailers safe. Trailers are difficult to track when stolen, and taking photos can help identify them if they are taken.

Burglary and auto theft detectives are actively working and have sometimes been able to stop these crimes before they happen. The department says it is working tirelessly on all these files to identify, find and apprehend the offenders.
