WWE Money in the Bank has changed venues from Allegiant Stadium to MGM Grand, due to low ticket sales.
The move came as a surprise to some at the company, as moving to more stadium shows was a big project for Nick Khan. A source Fightful spoke to thought the company should have waited until at least after Hell in a Cell to see how ticket sales changed, and thought WWE was relying too much on the buzz of just putting on a stadium show by opposition to the reservation sale. the show.
WWE announced Money in the Bank before UFC announced a major PPV event for the same night, but everyone we spoke to said WWE did or should have expected it , as the 4th of July weekend has long been a UFC tradition. WWE had told Fightful along the way that they actually had a hold on Allegiant Stadium for the following night as well in case they needed it.
As mentioned, Nick Khan had been a big supporter of Saturday PPVs and stadium shows. While a source said it would be one of its first “duds”, members of the company also said they believe the show would have ended up selling 20-25,000 tickets by the time the show would have taken place.
In the weeks following the change, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes were both sidelined, and Brock Lesnar had to be recalled for Summerslam. A WWE source said “Well, given that we couldn’t have predicted all of this, and the event sold out at the new location, it doesn’t look too bad.”
We were told that WWE was very happy with how Money in the Bank turned out.
